1779 Nixon Quarrinton purchased STONE CROSS FARM for #1,240 paying £740 cash and taking out a £500 mortgage at 5% interest.
Stone Cross Farm was purchased by Nixon Quarrington in 1779. He owned the farm up until his death. When he died, he left most of his property to his ten-year-old nephew, Nixon, who was to inherit it on his 21st birthday. Stone Cross Farm, however, was to go to Nixon’s brothers, Thomas and Robert. Thomas and Robert would also get the rest of the property if Nixon were to die before he turned 21. Nixon lived to be 21 but did not live to see Thomas and Robert turn 21, and his wife inherited all his land. The two brothers fought against Nixon’s will and eventually won. This was a very hollow victory, though, as Robert had already died and Thomas was not doing too well financially. By the 1860s, Thomas had to give up the farm as the debt he was in was too large.
